Rita de Mendonça Freire Nogueira Faria is a lecturer at the School of Human Sciences, Catholic University of Portugal, and a researcher at CECC. She has taught English and research seminars for the Masters programme on Foreign Applied Languages since 2002.

She holds a BA in Modern Languages and Literature, Portuguese and English Studies, from the Faculty of Letters at the University of Lisbon and an M.Phil in Linguistics from the University of Cambridge, UK. Her Masters thesis focused on person deixis in Portuguese. She was awarded a PhD degree in 2010 by the Catholic University of Portugal with a thesis on linguistic politeness in Portuguese and in English.

Her research interests include linguistic (im)politeness, person and social deixis in Portuguese and Portuguese forms of address, in particular sociolinguistic change and Portuguese linguistic address; (im)politeness and relational work in the era of technology.
