The aim of CECC is to promote and develop, from a multidisciplinary perspective, research in the areas of culture, literary studies, language sciences and media studies, and to encourage intersections between these different fields of knowledge, as well as links between each field and other scientific areas.

The scientific activity of the Centre is structured into 3 lines of research: Culture and Conflict; Translating Europe across the Ages; Media, Technology, Contexts. These lines have a synergetic interaction based on the cross-development of scientific research in three major areas: the structure of representation; forms of intersystemic, intersemiotic and intercultural mediation; constructing meaning in modernity.
